In 1999 the Protected Instruction Monitoring Protocol (SIOP) was developed, adhering to the intensive observation of sheltered English mentors throughout the USA (Echevarria, Vogt, & Short, 2004). While ELLs’ instructors have used sheltered English guidelines for years, a constant understanding of the components of sheltered policies has arisen within the past five years. The SIOP Model is planned to be appropriate for degrees of education from pre-K with neighbourhood universities. While doing so, pupils create English academic skills throughout the four domains– reading, writing, paying attention and speaking. SIOP provides educators with a coherent method for preparation and supplies appropriate, purposeful lessons that allow trainees to communicate with one around content ideas lined up to the Typical Core and state standards. SIOP courses are student-centred and inviting where English learners have chances to utilize language in simple means, collaborating with peers around ideas and details, practising and using the product to satisfy the lesson’s purposes. It also helps ESL (English as a 2nd Language) and ELD (English Language Advancement) educators include material topics and class jobs in their language lessons. Security software is an essential element of any PC user, especially in this day and age when online snoopers are rampant. Joe Wainer Updated 2 months ago Simplified security suite The contrasts between Evans velvety but complex backdrops and Davis' extemporaneous work out front is compelling from start to finish. It opens with a march and a fanfare, and then Davis blasts an uncanny solo- slow, choosing between a small handful of notes, but so intent and concentrated that his trumpet almost seems to be splintering. He sounds especially impassioned on "Saeta", a piece whose scales reflect the influence of North African music on flamenco. Davis is the only soloist on the record, and he burrows deeply into the melodies, turning them over with a huge, bulbous tone that's both strong and vulnerable. Sometimes the music just seems to hang in the air, and sometimes it lurches toward an unexpected climax. Using French horn, harp, oboe, and bassoon, as well as more typically jazz brass instruments like trumpet and trombone (Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, the rhythm section of Davis' band, are both on hand, but they're playing charts- there's no room here for improvisation), Evans creates a shifting tapestry of luscious sound. It's a piece by Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo, and if you hear it played with a classical guitar and full orchestra, you realize both how faithful Evans was to it in terms of structure and what he accomplished as far as texture. There's a real charge that comes from the distant, clattering percussion that begins "Concierto de Aranjuez (Adagio)", the opening track and centerpiece. But Sketches of Spain does something special. If we want something more forward with more improvisation and interplay, hey, there are a billion other records out there. The majority of people encountering a record like Sketches of Spain for the first time probably have no special interest in jazz as an idea, and the notion of pursuing atmospheric records whose primary selling point is an overriding feel and an abiding surface-level prettiness is nothing to be embarrassed about. There is some merit to their claim, but the criticism now seems, interestingly, dated. The writers of The Penguin Guide to Jazz felt that the moodiness of Sketches of Spain dominated to the point where it added up to something closer to glorified elevator music. It's the kind of album that dims the light in the room whenever it plays. It's often quiet and atmospheric, at points coming over as almost ambient. There's a lot going on in the music that rewards a close listen, but it's also something you can put on and read to (though admittedly, some of the dynamic surges could be a little jolting). That's partly up to its potential contexts being so variable. So much so that, like its predecessor, it became the kind of record that someone with only two or three albums by jazz artists might have in their collection. It's hard not to be taken in immediately.Īnd that's the first thing to note about Sketches of Spain: Where Davis' "Is this jazz?" albums from the late-60s forward were often dense and challenging ("Is this even music?" even came up now and then), Sketches of Spain was always easy to like. While Evans' distinctive approach to harmony and tonal color- one of the most enjoyable "Hey, I get it!" moments as you first explore jazz is when you start to recognize his arrangements- inhabits a form that to the uninitiated can sound mysterious and exotic and sensual. Davis takes what is most striking about his trumpet style- the controlled soloing in the middle register, with a mastery of subtle shifts in focus- and amplifies it, creating measured phrases of almost painful intensity. So to say both were in strong form here would be an understatement. Davis was piling up hall of fame-caliber jazz albums with alarming regularity, while Evans, in addition to working with Davis frequently in the late 1950s, recorded what was perhaps his finest solo album in 1960, Out of the Cool (it vaguely shares a vibe with Sketches, but is in my estimation just a hair better). The two old friends and collaborators were on a huge roll creatively during this period. Working with arranger Gil Evans, Davis cooked up a concept album, looking to the structure and texture of Spanish folk and classical music for inspiration. For example, what if the seller offered the property for sale as a FSBO? True, there was no exposure via the local MLS, but why does a property need to be offered for sale via the MLS just to qualify as having been “…offered for sale on the open market…”? Next, where is it written that a tenant-purchase of a duplex cannot/does not meet the requirements of an arm’s-length transaction? Why assume that merely because the tenant is the contract grantee, the parties to the contract reached that sales price by other than free and open negotiations?įrom the seller’s standpoint, in this scenario, is there any evidence the seller is under any undue influence to sell the property (to anybody, including the tenant)? So, if there is no undue influence to sell, as well as no undue influence to buy, and the parties arrived at the contract price via free and open negotiations, what is not arm’s-length about this transaction? Without reading any more into this scenario, nor reading anything out of it, I see this transaction as arm’s-length for these reasons. In all candor, however, I can’t say this question would be so cut-and-dried to me now. Therefore, based on this analysis, at one time I would have concluded this was NOT an arm’s-length transaction. Further, the tenant as the contract-grantee might have had some “sentimental” reasons to purchase the property (although I can’t imagine about how anybody could get sentimental about a duplex property), thus may have other-than-market motivations to purchase. Let’s assume, for the purposes of this discussion, that some analysis on your part reveals that this property was never offered for sale via the local MLS. With those data only, how do you conclude if this is an arm’s-length transaction? Your client gives you a copy of the tenant’s current lease, as well as a copy of the signed and executory purchase and sales agreement. Now, consider a situation in which a tenant in a duplex is the contract grantee. Yet, both of them call for the appraiser to use only arm’s-length transactions as comparable sales (which is what the definition of market value assumes). Surprisingly, USPAP does not define the term arm’s-length transaction. However, was that correct? Let’s go to USPAP to see what it says. This is how this concept was taught to me when I took my original appraisal classes, oh so long ago. In other words, it was a typical market transaction. I thought such a transaction was one where the buyer and seller were traditionally motivated there was no coercion, no bias no relationship between the parties. Are we truly aware of its definition and its application? How often do we appraisers get into the mode where we think we know it all? Occasionally, do we need to step back and look at the way we do things, just to make sure we are not missing something? Is what we know to be true and correct really true and correct? I raise this issue relative to the concept of what an arm’s-length transaction is. Yet, both of them call for the appraiser to use only arm’s-length transactions as comparable sales… USPAP does not define the term arm’s-length transaction. But, Thunderbird will welcome those looking for more complexity. There are a lot of commercial and freemium email clients available in the market, but going with completely free, we will have one name in mind: Mozilla Thunderbird email client. Google has always been about convenience, so if you aren’t asking it for more, then you’re likely fine where you are. If you use Gmail and you’re strapped in with your Calendar, Tasks and Contacts as well as a frequent user of Docs, Sheets, Slides and more, then it’s hard to see past sticking with this option. Thunderbird does have some add-ons that work with Google’s Workspace apps but it’s far from the streamlined and integrated experience that is offered within Gmail. Organisation is paramount with large file management, add-ons manager, smart folders (folders across multiple email addresses) and file system-esque look and feel. Tabs let you have different conversations, searches and add-ons open all at once, allowing you to speedily move from one to the other. There are tabs in Thunderbird for easy multitaskingĪs a total package, it’s hard to refer to Mozilla’s Thunderbird as a modern bit of kit but its most contemporary feature is tabs. Whereas Thunderbird is made for handling many at once. Gmail and Outlook aren’t built to accommodate a bunch of email addresses, a few will probably be fine. Thunderbird – Image Credit (Trusted Reviews)Īdmittedly, this function does exist in rivals but it’s what Thunderbird is good at. One caveat, Mozilla Thunderbird doesn’t provide you with an email address so you’ll be using a combination of existing ones. The main benefit of Thunderbird is how it seamlessly weaves your different email addresses together into one piece of software. Mozilla does have the in-development K-9 Mail app, which will act as an Android version of Thunderbird in the future.īuy now Thunderbird is about bringing all your emails together You can’t access it in a browser or on a smartphone. The lack of a modern slant is also highlighted by Thunderbird being tied to desktop operating systems. Admittedly, it’s been updated quite a bit but there are lots of visual similarities with our 2007 review of Mozilla Thunderbird 2, as it was known. Yes, it sports some interesting features but it looks like it’s from 10-20 years ago. Mozilla Thunderbird is quite the opposite. There are some additional features for those wanting more customisation but it’s largely about a carefree user experience. It looks clean, simple and is relatively easy to use. Google’s Gmail is almost synonymous with modern email. Here’s how these two email services stack up against each other. However, if your email life involves a bit more complexity, Mozilla Thunderbird is an email platform that may suit some of your more specific needs. Both Google and Microsoft have honed a streamlined email experience. If email is all about simplicity for you, Google’s Gmail is probably the right way to go. Like Thunderbird, Firefox is alternative to the mainstream options from Microsoft and Google. You may or may not have heard of Firefox, Mozilla’s browser and most popular product. Google’s Gmail is a straightforward pick but, for those with multiple email addresses, Thunderbird is worth considering. That alternative is Mozilla’s Thunderbird. Gmail is the go-to for many, but there’s an interesting alternative. “This is truly my dream,” Emily Rudd said in her Instagram post. The upper mids frequency range is where human ears are the most sensitive. Balancing the mids properly can create a well-defined soundstage. In audio production and mixing, the midrange is essential for achieving clarity and presence in the sound. The mid or midrange contains many fundamental frequencies in musical instruments and the human voice. When there is less, it will sound empty or hallowed. When too much happens in this range, instruments can sound muffled or boxy. To some extent, most musical instruments are in this range, so finding a balance between them is critical. These frequencies are responsible for creating the foundation and depth of sound.īass is an essential element in various music genres, providing rhythm and adding richness to the audio experience. The bass range is what many people are passionate about. They bring warmth and impact to audio experiences. This frequency range is felt more than heard, like when the bass drops at a live show, and you feel it in your chest. They produce a powerful, deep low-end sound typically reserved for bass guitars, kick drums, and low synthesizers. The sub-bass range is the lowest sound audible to humans. Here is the breakdown of seven frequency ranges: Sub-bass: (20 to 60 Hz) The commonly referenced frequency range is 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, and people can hear less than this entire range as they age. Frequency Rangesįrequency ranges (or bands) are defined as a collection of frequencies ranging from lower to higher frequencies. The next section covers seven different frequency ranges to help you understand how an equalizer works. Frequency in audio is how fast or slow the sound waves are moving. When you listen to music or sound, it can be high or low. It is about how high or low the sound is. However, it also helps to consider other factors that impact your audio quality.įrequency is the number of cycles per second of the sound wave. □Note: An equalizer can make considerable improvements to your audio. The following sections will cover frequency ranges, the best equalizer settings, and some tips on adjusting your equalizer. It lets you adjust your frequencies to focus on the song's elements. The music you listened to may have sounded good, but you can always make it sound much better with an equalizer.ĮQ allows you to tailor the music to your liking by choosing frequencies you want to boost and those you want to weaken. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for the best equalizer settings, as you can adjust frequencies based on your preferences. Many devices include genre-specific presets that you can use as a starting point and then fine-tune. An equalizer is a piece of audio equipment that isolates frequencies and either boosts, cuts, reduces or leaves them as they are.įrequency ranges are categorized into bass (low frequencies), mid (mid frequencies), and treble (high frequencies)Įach frequency range has a significant impact on the overall sound profile. Back at home, he has all kinds of knick-knacks of Lucy’s and a bunch of baby toys – his mom and sister think he’s ridiculous and doesn’t actually know anything about babies. We go back in time 24 hours to see what Jon is up to. When she lands, she gets a text that Jon can’t meet her at the airport and she needs to take a train to Paddington Station instead. Rachel is on her flight to London, to “meet him for the first time” with her 8 month old baby. U/ordanation and I will be doing the live stream on youtube to discuss the episode at 8 pm EST Monday night :) I will edit this post with my recap notes Monday afternoon. The post episode thread here is intended for digging deeper into the discussion! For while-you-are-watching reactions, stick to the live thread. My power was out and I didn't get to watch tonight :( :( |
